Steve McQueen’s Pursuit (2005) is included in the Sharjah Biennial 15: Thinking Historically in the Present, opening today.
The work, which premiered at the Fondazione Prada, Milan in 2005, is a large scale-installation combining space, sound and projected video: a darkened environment of abstract, ill-defined lights and oppressive sound creating a disorientating experience in which the viewer attempts in vain to organise or define the nature of the images. The mirrored walls create a series of infinite reflections, transforming the space into a visual and aural kaleidoscope.
Conceived by the late Okwui Enwezor, Sharjah Biennial 15 is curated by Hoor Al Qasimi, Director of Sharjah Art Foundation.
