Jake Grewal, Some days I feel more alive opens tomorrow at Pallant House Gallery, Chichester.

For Grewal’s first institutional solo exhibition the artist will present a new body of work, featuring a mixture of raw charcoal drawings and paintings. The works, influenced by British Neo-Romantic artists, depict self-reflective figures set in monumental landscapes that are dark, earthy and full of ambiguity. Grewal works from his own photographs and sketches, often painting in the open air. These contemplations on the fierceness of nature form an allegory of the human experience.

The exhibition will be accompanied by a display, curated by Grewal, of works by a number of British Neo-Romantic artists. This display will be drawn from Pallant House Gallery’s collection and will include works by Prunella Clough, Graham Sutherland, and Keith Vaughan.
