17.9.24 - Steve McQueen at Dia Chelsea, New York
A solo exhibition of Steve McQueen opens this week at Dia Chelsea, bringing together three works, spanning over 20 years of the artist’s career, that each explore narratives of the African diaspora. The presentation centres on Sunshine State (2022), originally commissioned by the International Film Festival Rotterdam. McQueen will show alongside this one of his earliest video works, Exodus (1992–1997), and will present Bounty (2024), a new group of photographs made for the exhibition at Dia Chelsea.
The exhibition completes Dia's two-part presentation alongside McQueen’s major new installation Bass (2024), that opened at Dia Beacon earlier this year and continues until May 2025. The two exhibitions mark Dia’s 50th year and highlight the institution’s decades-long commitment to ambitious, single-artist presentations.
