Opening this week at the Kunstmuseum Bern, Amy Sillman’s solo exhibition Oh, Clock! presents works from the past 15 years including over two dozen paintings, several collections of drawings, digital animations, and a room-size installation of hybrid printed/handmade work, based on the idea of time unfolded as a cycle.
Throughout her practice Sillman oscillates between figuration and abstraction, borrowing from cut-and-paste poetics and musical scores as conceptual instructions for painting, as well as employing zine-making and video. In Oh, Clock!, time itself becomes another material, both embedded in the paintings themselves, and in the series and sequences of works on display.
Alongside the exhibition, Sillman has constructed a special installation of approximately 50 works chosen from Kunstmuseum Bern’s collection, shown against the artist’s site-specific, improvisatory wall paintings.
