Kunstmuseum Bern presents Listen to the Space, the largest retrospective dedicated to Marisa Merz in Switzerland for 30 years. Known as the only woman in the Arte Povera movement that emerged from a post-industrialised and tumultuous Italy in the 1960s, Merz (1926–2019) would go on to receive the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement at the Venice Biennale in 2013.
The exhibition will feature a selection of some hundred works, exploring the way in which Merz transformed space and time into a collage through drawings, paintings, sculptures and installations, using materials such as aluminium, clay, copper, nylon, wax, and fabric.
Curated by Livia Wermuth, Listen to the Space is organised in collaboration with LaM - Lille Métropole, musée d'art moderne, d'art contemporain et d'art brut, the Fridericianum and the Fondazione Merz.
