29.09.2020 - Alexandre da Cunha: Figurehead II, The Box, Plymouth
Alexandre da Cunha: Figurehead II, The Box, Plymouth
As part of a presentation of works, Alexandre da Cunha exhibits a new totemic sculpture from his Figurehead series, specially commissioned by The Box. In addition, a series of small table works populate the first floor in the North Hall — these playful sculptures are presented amongst objects and artefacts that da Cunha has chosen from The Box collections, creating a dialogue that explores domestic and leisure activity through thematic and material relationships.
Finally, da Cunha's Affairs series occupies the South Hall and Active Archive; a collection of beach towels bearing national flags and consumer insignia, which explores his interest in stereotypes propagated under the guise of national identity. -

Michael Landy and Caragh Thuring: Scarf Up Project
Michael Landy and Caragh Thuring are two of nine artists who have designed unique scarf patterns for CW+ — the official charity of Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. The #ScarfUp project will be used by patients in hospitals suffering from asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and those recovering from COVID-19. Volunteer knitters are encouraged to make and donate these scarves to the hospital, so that patients can receive them when returning for follow-up appointments.

Abraham Cruzvillegas: The 1st Intergalactic Summit of Independent Art Spaces, Sandwich Gallery, Bucharest
The Summit is a proposal thought of in 2019 that makes so much more sense in 2020. Abraham Cruzvillegas thrives on improvisation and instability, on conjuring collective constructions and transforming collected objects into large environments, in the making of which he is never alone. For this occasion, Abraham has invited artist-run spaces from various countries to send us instructions for a group exhibition or group exhibitions.
Exhibition dates: 11 September - 16 November 2020

11.09.2020 - Amie Siegel: Gropius Bau, Berlin
Amie Siegel: Gropius Bau, Berlin
Amie Siegel's Quarry (2015) will be screened from 7pm (CET) on Friday 11 September at Gropius Bau in Berlin, as part of Revolverkino's film series What is Landscape? along with films by Joanna Hogg and Hannes Long.
Quarry traces the source of marble from a dark, cave-like underground quarry in Vermont—the largest in the world—to its high-end destination in Manhattan real estate developments. The orchestral soundtrack forms an emotive underpinning to the sleek interiors, echoing at times the aspiration of the luxury rendering. White marble, with its association to classical renaissance sculpture, is shaped and constructed into the interior surfaces of these luxury apartments, designed to bring even the most mundane spaces in closer proximity to the materiality and values of art. Through a distinctive camera choreography of tracking shots, gliding movements and sudden tableaux, the film reveals and montages increasingly elaborate layers and strategies of re-creation and simulation. Ultimately the representation of living or life exposes a complex economy of production and speculation.
Friday, 11 September, 7pm (CET).
