Steve MᶜQueen: Tate Modern
This is the first major exhibition of Steve MᶜQueen's work in London since he won the Turner Prize in 1999. It features 14 major works spanning film, photography and sculpture, including his first film shot on a Super 8 camera, Exodus 1992/97, and the recent End Credits 2012–ongoing, MᶜQueen’s homage to the African-American singer, actor and civil rights activist Paul Robeson, which is on show for the first time in the UK. Spanning two decades of his career, the exhibition will reveal how MᶜQueen’s pioneering approaches to filmmaking have expanded the ways in which artists work with the medium.

UCLA announces Catherine Opie as the first endowed chair in the art department. Opie has been a member of the art faculty at UCLA since 2001. The endowment comes courtesy of a $2-million donation from Lynda and Stewart Resnick, owners of the Wonderful Co. and prominent arts patrons.

John Gerrard: Western Flag (Spindletop, Texas), Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza, Madrid
The latest iteration of John Gerrard's Western Flag (Spindletop, Texas), 2017 is unveiled in central Madrid outside the Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza to coincide with the 25th United Nations Climate Change conference (COP25). This iconic gesture of protest will be shown on a giant LED wall in the public realm outside the museum and will continue the series of outdoor presentations of the work that has included: Somerset House, London (2017), Desert X, California, (2019), Hamburg Rathausmarkt, Hamburg (2019), with further presentations to come in 2020.

As part of the exhibition YOU at Musée d'Art Moderne de Paris, Abraham Cruzvillegas presents AuTOIconstruction, an evening of art and poetry, inviting volunteers to read aloud texts written by Cruzvillegas since 2008, while he builds a sculpture, composed of recycled materials collected in the museum, which will then be destroyed in front of the public during this same event.
